Madewell Opens New NYC Store In Meatpacking District

September 08, 2016

Madewell is expanding its retail footprint with a new store in New York City's Meatpacking District.

The new store, located at 69 Gansevoort St., marks Madewell's fifth in NYC and 108th in the U.S.

The Meatpacking location features a Denim Bar with a complete selection of Madewell's jeans, as well as a Monogram Shop where customers can receive on-the-spot embossing on leather purchases.

"The team and I are excited to add the Gansevoort store to our roster of NYC locations. We can't wait to be part of the great energy that already exists in the Meatpacking District," head of Madewell design Joyce Lee said in a press release.

Through this weekend, customers at the new store can enjoy free leather-embossed monogramming, live-painted monogramming by BKaspr, Aura photos and readings by Mood x Moss and ice cream by Ample Hills.

The store is currently stocked with Madewell's fall 2016 offering, which features new takes on throwback, 1970s-inspired shapes like cropped flares and high-rise bottoms, as well as pretty lace details, denim and outerwear.

"At Madewell, we take a denim-first approach to designing, which allows us to focus on the grounding pieces of our girl's wardrobe. From there we build the collection around what she will wear with these pieces, always keeping in mind versatility and what feels fresh and relevant. Specifically for fall 2016, we drew inspiration from the 1970s. In denim it manifested as cropped flares and higher rises, for the rest of the line we played with texture by layering on suede, shearling, velvet and corduroy," Lee said.

In late August, Madewell unveiled its advertising campaign for the fall range. Starring Constance Jablonski, the campaign was shot in Lisbon, Portugal, and focuses on the six words that define Madewell — tomboy, sexy, cool, unexpected, effortless and artful - and features looks that best represent them for the fall season.
