Oh, snap(shot)! Polaroid Fotobar and Museum are ready for their close-up at the Linq

April 24, 2014

After a soft opening of three weeks and a preview evening Wednesday night, the Polaroid Fotobar and Polaroid Museum officially opens for business today at the Linq at center Strip.

The fourth location in the country (the first three are in Florida), Las Vegas’ Polaroid Fotobar — where you take it, and they make it — is the largest and flagship store and the only one with a museum.

Knowledgeable young employee Brandon walked this Polaroid novice through the process of printing photographs Polaroid-style on Wednesday night. Store literature reads “print your best Las Vegas photos,” the smallest of which are $1 apiece and require a minimum of six.

Six photographs were uploaded from an iPhone to thick cards and absolutely delighted after a processing time of about 30 minutes. Brandon offered a tour of the various frames and artwork customers can create from their Polaroids in materials including wood, glass, metal and acrylic.

This is a great store to reproduce photographs from Las Vegas — or from anywhere, really — and is terrific for gifts. Brandon mentioned that one customer previously spent hours printing photos in the Polaroid Fotobar, paying for more than 200 of them. Wedding photos have proven popular to reproduce.

The second-floor museum, a wide-open and bright space due to the pristine white walls, is currently home to the free exhibit “Capturing Celebrity” by the Andy Warhol Museum.

As the name hints, Polaroids of celebrities of old (Muhammad Ali, Jane Fonda and Bob Dylan) and new (Adele, Megan Fox and Hugh Jackman) splash the exhibit walls and space alongside fascinating Polaroid cameras of yesteryear.

The Polaroid Museum is a great space for parties and has a very light and positive vibe. Thanks to L.E. Baskow of the Las Vegas Sun for his photo gallery that are not Polaroids — but could be at the Polaroid Fotobar.

Regular store hours are 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Fridays through Saturdays. (702) 734-0227; PolaroidFotobar.com.
