Peek Inside the Cupcake Wonderland of Sprinkles

February 03, 2017

Sprinkles will unveil its cake haven onto the Domain this Saturday, which includes the much-heralded cupcake vending machine which will run 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

In anticipation of the opening, Eater got a sneak peek of the Austin location, which includes a large array of cupcakes (ranging from the colorful signature sprinkle-laden one, black and white, red velvet, to banana), cupcake-topped sundae, cupcake ice cream sandwiches (using the tops of the baked goods), and shakes. Special to the Texas shops are edible decorations in the shape of the state.

Unfortunately, at the time of the visit, the cupcake vending machine wasn’t functioning, but staffers promised it would be up and running during the opening. Based on other locations, prime vending machine hours tend to happen on Friday and Saturday nights, starting at around 10 or 11 p.m. all the way to 2 a.m.

Candace Nelson, the founder of Sprinkles, told Eater that she saw Austin as a “big hole in our Texas expansion” (There are locations out in Dallas and Houston already.). The city is “so lively and booming,” it made sense to come here. She doesn’t rule out future Austin expansions, especially within downtown, at the very least in vending machine form.

Sprinkles’ bakery hours are from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. The cupcake vending machine will run at all hours of the day and night.
